It can be used for good things and for good things. It can be a horrible thing when given to the wrong people. I think that there are really two types of power. There is the power to do something. And there is power over people. Most people have the power to do something. You always have the power to do many things but you don’t always choose to do these things. There are many examples of this. This being in Animal Farm Boxer the horse had the power to take over the farm. He might have had the power but he did not have the intelligence or the will to do so. In life as it is today everyone has the power to do what they want. That is why we have human rights. But just because you have the power to do something does not mean it will always come out successful. So for example you might have the power to create a business but just because you have that power does not mean it will be successful. That is why since the creation of human rights most people have the power to do what they want be it within the law. The only people who do not have this power are people who have had their human rights taken away. So most people in today’s society have the power to do what they want. This is completely different for people who have power over other people. This is something many people would like to have but do not. Power over other people is much more important as less people have this type of power. The obvious people who have power over other people are rulers. This is people who are ‘in power’ as the term goes such as; the president, king, queen or prime minister. They have power over people and they make decisions for these people. They control many parts of their country because of the orders and the decisions that they can make. Then there are people with power over a smaller group of people. These are people who run some business and have people working for them. They have power over whoever works for them. They can make them do what they want within a boundary because they work for them. They have power because they are paying them and because they are paying they do what they are asked. Then another part of power is the power a parent has over a child. The parent can make the child do what they want. This power is not complete control over the child but when the parent wants something they can get it. This is because power is with the parent. They can control and manipulate because the power is with them. So these are the two types of power that I see; the power to do something and the power over people. One is the ability to do what you want to do type of power. And the other is a basic control over some aspects of people.

Control in the Hunger Games

In my book 'The Hunger Games' the main themes are power and control. I will focus on the them of control. The main character in 'The Hunger Games', Katniss Everdeen, is always thinking about the idea of control. She thinks that the Capitol control everything and do whatever they want. The main the capitol keeps everyone under control is by showing everyone what they can do. They do this by creating the hunger games and making all the districts participate. So they have to put forward one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to go to the capitol and fight to the death with other contenders. While in the hunger games the people in control has now gone to the gamemakers who are just another part in the capitol. The way they have control is that they could kill anyone at anytime with just a flick of a button. Katniss knows this and is therefore quite scared of them and of what they could do to her. Through out the book Katniss never gains control of anything. She is always under supervision of the gamemakers and they could kill her at any time. The only time that Katniss shows any sort of power or control is when she nearly kills herself at the end of the hunger games. When she does this it shows that the capitol or gamemakers does not have complete control over her and I expect this makes them annoyed. They will probably does something to her for taking the only thing that they have away from them, but this will have to happen in the second book.

Reflection on POP

One of the main things in working that I have trouble in for working is time management. So since I was here all the way through middle school I always knew this project was probably going to be hard for me. So I would say my main lesson learned was time management. It was not that hard of a project if you did manage your time well and get everything done with time to spare. I think I did this and only had troubles with my EO. Another lesson I learned is how to research properly. You have to do a lot of research and now I think I know how to research properly and efficiently. The final lesson I learned is how to be patient when searching for something online. I had to be patient and I think that was the final lesson I learned.

Reflection on irony

The main visual elements of this cartoon is the writing at the bottom and the three people sitting areound the table. Mostly the little boy aswell because both of his parents are staring right at him. This gives the immediate idea that they are talking to him. This cartoon is about irony and how it is used all the time. He I beleive thinks that irony is quite funny and that it is used alot. I think that he thinks it is funny because of the underlining in the writing. And because that is what the whole cartoon is based around. This cartoon is ironic because rather than just telling his parents quickly what he did at school today and wating maybe thirty seconds of his day. He decides to tell them to read his blog wasting 10 minutes of their day. This shows irony because it is also opposite thoughts. This cartoon is also ironic because of how it shows that in the present day we resort to using the tecknology for doing just about everything for us. And in this cartoon they are even talking for us. It relates to technology because it shows how we rely on technology for everything. I think to make the cartoon more persuasive the cartoonist should make the parents look more outraged.

Worktime on POP

My plan for this week is to have all my sources and what Im going to use in my paragraphs done by Wednesday. These are all uses of technology but there are still many more. What I believe is technology is any sort of electronic equipment. So it could basically be anything that uses electricity. The five most important uses of technology I would say are the computer, x-ray, life support, security system, and water purifiers. Five least important are the electric toothbrush, electric shaver, hair dryer, PSP, and light up shoes. I believe that the invention of all these new tools of destruction. Such as new warheads or nuclear missiles. I do not believe that you should make anything if it is not used in a good way. That is where I disagree with Vonnegut. He believes that all technology is bad and that you should do everything yourself. I believe that some technology is good. Such as things that can help invent new things. Also all scientists use all these massive technology computers to help make new medicines or other things. This is because an oxymoron is a contradiction of terms that are put together to create another meaning. Since war is about killing. And holy is about god and following the path of god and all that is good then there can't be a war that is holy. If you are following the way of god and you are in a way religous or someone who is holy then you would follow the basic rules of whatever religion you are in. And in all religions it is forbidden to kill another human being and in some religions it is even forbidden to kill another insect of animal.

Will there be a WWIII?

I believe there there could be a World War III in my life time. This is because I think there are still some bad feelings between all the countries that were colonized and the European countries and America. Also I think that Irag and Iran are annoyed at England and America for what they have done over the last eight years. So I think because there are so many countries that do not like the European countries and America I think they will eventually get together and try and take revenge on them.
So if there is going to be a World War III in my life time I think this will be the cause. But the war will only start if the countries that don't like Europe or America get all there problems sorted out. If there is a war there will be many African countries on one side and a few Asian countries on one side. On the other side will be a lot of European countries and America. The outcome would depend on when they start the war. If they start the war too soon they will lose.

WW2 letter

The Army congress of London

Dear Paul,

I am in London where we have eneded our fight against the Germans. This was a hard fought war where many died especially in this particular battle. This battle has been called the Battle of Britain. We have won this battle well and have destroyed many of the German Aircrafts. This battle has been appropriately called ‘the battle of Britain since it was based in Britain. We have lost great numbers in this fight and we shall try and do much to avenge their deaths. In this fight it was lots of airfights and airplanes. The Germans were dropping bombs on London until we surrendered and we were trying to stop them from dropping any more bombs. We managed to win by a bit because we got a good bit of help from the Polish. Had the Polish not helped us in the air fight we would definitely have lost. A man that gave strength to all soldiers or people related in fighting in the war is Winston Churchill. Without him I don’t think Britain would have got through. Although we have limited food and the weather and general conditions are bad I have managed to survive. The German Airforce were trying to get us to surrender and that was all the could do and we were just holding on. So please stay safe and don’t do anything stupid.

Sincerely , your father Tom

Reflection on discussion

Anne Frank wrote: “I don’t believe the war (World War II) is simply the work of politicians and capitalists. Oh no, the common man is every bit as guilty; otherwise, people and nations would have rebelled long ago!” (May 3, 1944.)The Nazis needed Dutch collaborators to carry out their fascist decrees. What would have influenced someone to become a collaborator? What factors would have encouraged someone to join the resistance? Do you think these factors were based on personal characteristics or political beliefs? How should accountability for wars be assigned? So many say they never understood what was happening. How likely could that have been?

I am reflecting on discussion number 4. I think that to convince someone to become a collaborator all you would have to do is threaten them with something or to offer them something in return. You would probably join the resistance for two reasons. Probably if the Nazi party directly affected you be hurting someone in your family or by hurting a close friend. Or you would join the resistance if you thought that what the Nazi party was doing was morally wrong. I think both these factors are personal characteristics because you would only do something if it was affecting you. I think that responsibility for the war should be put on Germany because they elected Hitler and therefore they could have stopped everything before it got started. I believe that although a lot of people said they did not know what was going on I believe a lot of them did. They just didn't act up against it because they were afraid of what would happen to them.

How to start a war

Start with a lot of Facism
add an annoyed country
put in some nationalism
and swirl it around

A touch of invasions
A pinch of Blitzkrieg
A handful of revenge
Then Bang!
You have got a war

Film review on Animal Farm

I believe that the book on Animal Farm was very good and the film did a poor job displaying the book. The book was good and all the film had to do was follow the book and it would be a good film but there were some big differences.
First of all they were missing some characters such as, Clover and Mollie which meant that because these two characters were absent some events that happened in the book did not happen in the film. Also the farmers Frederic and Pilkington are not in the movie so the dispute over the selling of the wood did not happen in the film. And the final thing that was different was the song 'Beasts of England'. In the book there is specific words to the song. But in the movie it is just a rhythm and I think that was wrong.

which animal in animal farm do you relate to

I think I most relate to Benjamin in Animal Farm. This is because I can normally see when something is wrong. This is like Benjamin in Animal Farm. Another Example of how I am like Benjamin is that I am sour-tempered and cynical. These are two of the three things that are used to describe Benjamin at the beginning of the book. And one of the final reasons that I am like Benjamin is that when I see something is wrong I cannot do anything stop it from going wrong.

great powers game debrief

My country was France and we were one of the better countries at the beginning. I quickly conquered a country and if you do this at the beginning then you have massive advantages because one industry can make such a difference. At the beginning we were the best country and we were allies with almost every country. I think at the beginning it was very important to buy lots of industries because then you can keep on buying lots of industries and armies and your buying power becomes really big. I would have made fewer allies and made more really strong allies. Our allies eventually rose up and killed us so I would say they hurt us and did not benefit us. Never trust anyone, always watch your back, make strong allies.
<img width='1' height='1' and don't want anyone to rule over them

Tyranny is shown by how a couple of pigs take over and decide that they are leaders and should make all decisions on the farm.
Military

Joining the military in England is not mandatory. Even though it is not mandatory many people still join. I do not want to join the army. This is because every now and again you get a story in the paper about a guy doing a normal routine in the army and getting his legs blown off, or his arms, or his head. This is not really the kind of fate i really feel like I want. Also another story was that ticket wardens in England get paid more than soldiers. This really surprised seeing as there are alot of risks as a soldier and none as a ticket warden. The only time I would join the army was if there was a big war and they needed more soldiers.

Great Powers game reflection

The main visual element in this cartoon is that many different people are shaking hands with one and other. Another thing is that some of them have more hands so they can shake hands with more people. I believe this cartoon is representing the issue of power control. The cartoonist does not seem to have much of an opinion and he looks like he is just stating what is happening. He shows this by that some are happy some are sad but he has not written any words to show that he is agreeing with what happened or disagreeing with what happened. This I think realates to the Great Powers Game by showing that you necessarily do not have to be powerful or big you just have to be friends with people who are. I think it also shows because the big powers all seem to be friends but the little powers are not all friends with the big friends. Also how there is one country that has been left out of the entire thing and nobody wants to be friends with them.

Net Effect of imperialism in Africa

The positives

Imperialism and colonialism helped Africa by bringing them hospitals, cars, schools, and many other things from the more developed part of the world.

The natural resources were shared with the European countries and helped them during the industrial revolution.

Many railroads and seaports were built inside Africa.

Europe used the resources from Africa to progress through the industrial revolution so it could become a developed continent.

The negatives

Countries in Africa went to war.

Many innocent Africans were killed because they stood in the way of the Europeans.

Tribes were destroyed and many parts of African culture were destroyed forever.

Some of the natural resources that were used in the industrial revolution has polluted the world.

Slavery was a major problem for Africans in Europe and many of them led horrible lives.

current event 3

news story here

This story is all about how the president of Botswana will not attend a summit of regional leaders because Robert Mugabe has been invited. There are various parts of southern Africa and one of the main parts is South Africa. One of the hardest parts of time for southern Africa or more directly South Africa was the ending of apartheid. This is when they stopped all racist movements in Africa and all Africans were given equal rights. Another thing about South Africa is that it has many natural resources. Lesotho and Swaziland are both enclaves and are then influenced by South Africa. Also Botswana is a very successful country with in southern Africa. Although Southern Africa seems very rich it also has Mozambique and Zimbabwe with in it, two very poor countries at the moment.

current event 2

news story here

This news story is about how everyone in South Africa uses to much electricity the entire time. The main visual elements of the cartoon are the footprint on Africa. The cartoon is about how the Europeans have just come to Africa and pretty much ruined it. The cartoonist shows how he believes that the European countries have just come to Africa and stepped all over it. The evidence is that their is Africa and then a massive foot print which has ruined the entire continent. I tink that the cartoonist could have used just a couple of words or just a word to add more meaning to the picture. For example under this cartoon could have been the word 'justice???'.

History and culture in southern Africa

The history and culture in Southern Africa are an interesting blend of European and African. In Africa there are hundreds of different ethnic groups but only a couple of really big groups. Two main groups are the Zulu tribe and the Tswana tribe. Many of the ethnic groups in Africa were effected by the Europeans. One of the major things that happened was that the Europeans brought Christianity to Africa. One of the most intersting parts of Africa was the growth of Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe was a small trading and herding country. Then they began mining gold and farming became bigger. Then eventually Zimababwe became a massive trading centre from Southern Africa. Then 300 years later the trading of its gold went down. And finally it was no longer a important trading centre. When the Europeans came to Africa they started conquering any part of Africa that they wanted. At the same time the Zulu became a powerful fighting force in the area. They took over the surrounding area and came into a fight with the British. After lots of battles the British defeated the Zulu and stole their land. In the early 1900s South Africa's government became racist. When they were racist they seperated everyone into four main groups, whites, blacks, coloureds, and Asians. If you were not in the white group then you had certain restrictions on you. These are some points on the amazing history and culture of Southern Africa.

Southern Africa physical features

Southern Africa is a diverse part of Africa with many minerals. Southern Africa has many different levels and areas such as mountains, deserts, islands, and plateaus. It also has rivers which are unique from any other. He wrote 'To Be A Slave' and can we trust what he says in this book. I believe we can as most of his writing is taken from people who were there at the time. He has most of his facts and his quotes taken from people who are ex-slaves. He has cited all the people he has gotten this information from. He also is directly related to ex-slaves and probably got some information from them to back up the things he was hearing from other people. The article is about a bank that has had money transferred to it to pass on to people fighting AIDS in southern Africa. The people who have given Zimbabwe the money say that unless that money is fully recovered they will give no more money to help AIDS in Zimbabwe again. This article was written on November 7th 2008 ago but the bank missed the deadline to give the money away on November 4th 2008. It does not say in the article exactly why they have not given up the money only that they still have seven million dollars to give back. The people that has given this money are very annoyed since Zimbabwe have a very serious case of AIDS and this money would really of helped and the bank has not released this money in a time of need.
The reason this is a big story is because of Magnitude. The outcome of the events that this story tells of are massive for people in Zimbabwe. Because of what has happened millions of people who are infected with AIDS now cannot get treatment for this disease. That is magnitude because of the number of people that this one story could effect forever. Lots of people could die of the disease between now and the time they recover the money. They will have died for no reason.

5 themes of geography - windsor castle

Movement: People are moving in the picture because they are walking towards the castle. If someone comes and hits you more than likely you are going to hit them back. Its not being mean or anything it is just self defence. In the book Julius Caesar I think a perfect example of this is when the conspirators kill Caesar they start a Civil War. By killing one person, a very important person but one person none the less, many more people were killed. Yes and in my personel history most of the time I use violence or someone uses violence one me more violence comes from that.

The Moral Dilemma of Brutus

Brutus wants the best of Rome. He will do almost anything to give Rome the best things. He wants Rome to not be run by one person but by the senate. Then there is Caesar. He is Brutus' best friend and is part of a high form of society. He has been going up the ranks of Judge to general to leader. He is slowly going towards being the outright king of Rome. This is not in Brutus' best interests and is wondering what he is going to have to do about his friend. As Brutus thinks Rome should be run by the Senate, Caesar is trying to be the ruler by himself. Then Cassius come along and says he thinks that Caesar is a lesser man and is not right to rule. This is when Brutus comes into a Moral Dilemma.
If I was in Brutus' shoes I would turn Cassius and his followers into Caesar for conspiracy to kill. I would do this because the plan to kill Caesar is wrong. In the book Brutus does feel some grief about the plan for his friend but he is more concerned about Rome. I would save Caesar and try and change Caesar's idea about the exclusion of the Senate. This solves all the problems and I think it helps everyone.

quarter 2 goals

One of my goals is to be able to do my homework better. Most of my grades were either low or high none of them were in the middle. I want to stop getting so many low grades and try and concentrate on being more consistent. One of the sacks of gold is labeled profits from child labor. This political cartoon is about the evils of capitalism and how they make some people very rich and some people very poor. The cartoonist obviously by the way he has made the cartoon thinks that capitalism is evil and should be stopped. The evidence would I think first be the labeling of the bags child labour profits. Then the size of the men showing how the rich one had all the power. And finally the words at the bottom of the cartoon. I chose this tip because I made all my money from buying low and then selling high. First of all I bought a railroads share for 5$ and managed to sell it for 20$ which is 4 times what I bought it for. The other stock I bought was silver. I bought it for 3$ a share and sold it for 10$ a share which is 3 and a bit times the amount I bought it for. As you can see from what I bought and sold the tip buy low and sell high really helped me in particular.

Roller Coaster

You get in the line thinking about how cool the ride will be. You watch everyone go on the ride and you think about how your soon going to be going on soon. Your getting closer to the ride. The line is getting shorter and shorter and now some doubts are creeping into the back of your head. You start thinking about if the ride is safe enough. What if you fall off and die. It all starts being too much. You finally decide that you are going to step out of the line and go some where else. Then suddenly its your go you are being shoved into the seat. They fasten the rope around you that they call a seatbelt and your off. Up down side to side you have no idea. Your nearly throwing up and just when you think you are going to the ride stops. This is because i believe all inventions are made because we need them. For example Samuel Morse invented the telegrapher this is because he thougt it would be easier if he didn't have to travel to tell someone something this way he could just write something down. So that is why he invented the telegrapher. Also Tomas Edison watched his mother work late into the night in pitch black. That is why he invented the electric bulb so that everyone could see when it was dark. And a final example would be Elias Howe he knew lots of people work for a long time sewing by hand, so he thought he could make it easier by inventing a sewing machine.

How do I learn best

I learn best visually.
